Plot Summary
The story follows Sean Anderson (played by Josh Hutcherson), a teenager who deciphers a mysterious radio signal. He believes it’s a distress call from his missing grandfather, Alexander Anderson, who may have discovered the fabled Mysterious Island, mentioned in classic adventure novels by Jules Verne, Jonathan Swift, and Robert Louis Stevenson.
Sean’s stepfather, Hank Parsons (played by Dwayne Johnson), decides to help him. Despite their differences, Hank wants to support Sean and bond with him. Together, they travel to the South Pacific in search of the island's location.
In Palau, they hire a quirky helicopter pilot, Gabato (Luis Guzmán), and his resourceful daughter, Kailani (Vanessa Hudgens), to fly them to the island. During the flight, they get caught in a storm and crash-land on the mysterious island itself.

On the island, they discover:

However, the island is sinking — due to rising tectonic activity, it will be submerged in a few days. The group races against time to find a way off the island. Their only hope is to locate the legendary submarine Nautilus, once captained by Captain Nemo.
Climax and Ending
They overcome natural hazards, giant creatures, and personal conflicts. Eventually, they find the Nautilus and escape just as the island collapses into the ocean.
Back home, Sean has a newfound respect for Hank, and the adventure brings them all closer together. The film ends with a hint at a possible third adventure — this time to the Moon.
